1/8/2024 0 Comments Rat poison blue blocks![]() These changes greatly affect the veterinary sector and how we are able to treat pets that have ingested rodenticides. After reevaluating the health effects of rodenticides, the EPA (environmental protection agency) announced control measures to reduce the risks of these products to children. ![]() However, these products pose severe safety concerns in pets and people. Not just once - it happens all the time and it's gross! But for that reason, Honey is pretty strong on her "leave it" command, and I'm always really diligent about watching the sidewalks.Rodenticides (rat poisons) are important products for controlling rodents that pose health concerns to people and endanger crops, animals and food supplies. Like - I have seen people eating a sandwich and then just toss it on the sidewalk. The major issue (that has always been an issue) in my neighborhood is garbage on the streets. People are sick and twisted, and I would die if harm came to my dog because of something like this. I have lived in my neighborhood for over a year without any problems, so it makes me really sad to think there could be one now. In any case, I have to walk my dog because we live in an apartment. So, now I feel a little like a paranoid crazy person Also, she said if someone was trying to target dogs, it probably would have been hidden in something tasty, and not just sitting on the side of the street looking like ice melt. My vet also said she has never seen a case of rat poisoning where the poison wasn't blue/green (but according to the internet, it can be any color.?). I called my vet to ask about this and "report" the incident, and she said that the two cases that have happened recently (both were taken to a large local animal hospital that gets a lot of press anyway) are miles away from us, and also that there was never any resolution as to whether or not the pets were maliciously poisoned.Īnyway, I still worry. ![]() The thing is, in my neighborhood this has never been a concern. I don't know if people are spreading stuff around, or if it is just some ice melt (it doesn't look like typical ice melt, but I know there are many different kinds and there has been a lot of snow here recently), or something that fell out of someone's trash (it was trash day).Īm I being overly paranoid, or does this sound like poison? I took her away from the area, and I don't have any reason in particular to suspect that this was rat poison, but I'm paranoid. I picked some up in my hand and it was sort of granulated (very small pieces), but it clumped together in my hand. There have been occasions where I have had my hand down her throat.Īnyway, last night we were walking and she was very interested in this clumpy white stuff under a tree on the sidewalk (she didn't get it - she just went over to smell it). I know the typical rat poison is blue-green and in pellets or blocks, but what else can it look like? I don't let Honey eat things off the street, but occasionally she will grab something before I notice. There have been reports over the past several months, of dogs being poisoned in my area (not in my immediate area, but close enough for me to be concerned).
